If you’ve been looking into expanding your family with a lovely furry friend, you might have come across the term “Frorkie.”
This isn’t an odd typo that you’ve stumbled upon! It’s the name for a fun and beautiful dog mix when you mix a French Bulldog with a Yorkie.
French Bulldog
French Bulldogs are a very popular breed that has been around for over 100 years. They’re a small breed that is extremely loyal and very friendly, which means that many people love to have them as pets.
Additionally, they come in several different colors, so they tend to be even more popular than other dog breeds. However, because of their popularity, they tend to be pretty expensive.
Yorkies are an extremely small breed of dog that tend to have large personalities. If you were to judge the Yorkie breed on how they act, you would think they are extremely large dogs. Indeed, Yorkies tend to show off huge confidence and courage, and they’re bold and stubborn.
Their cute appearance and shaggy fur make them a fan-favorite for many people, but again, because of their popularity, they can cost you a pretty penny.
So why not split the difference and get a dog that’s a mix of the pair?
That’s right. We’re bringing this back to the Frorkie.
Frorkie
As mentioned, the Frorkie is a mix of the French Bulldog and the Yorkie dog breed.
You may not have thought that these two breeds would play well together based on their temperaments and the like, but in fact, they breed well together, as can be seen in how lovely and lovable the Frorkie is.
Considering that both of these breeds are small dogs, you won’t be surprised to find that the Frorkie is also a smaller breed. Their weight tends not to exceed 15 or so pounds when they’re fully grown!
They’re absolute delights, and then tend to take the best parts of their parents’ breeds.*
*This is not a guarantee that your dog will be a perfect mix of the French Bulldog personality and the Yorkie personality, but you might be surprised by what you get.
Appearance
When it comes to your Frorkie, all of the puppies are going to be different, and it’ll be somewhat luck of the draw. Having said that, most of this mixed breed will end up with the French Bulldog’s round head, and they’ll end up with coats that are longer versions of a mix of the two breeds’ fur.
The texture of the fur can vary wildly, however – you might get something smooth and short, or you might get a soft and longer one that will need to be brushed to avoid tangles and matted fur.
You might also end up with some Frorkies who have tan fur like their Yorkie parents, but there have been darker colorations – or completely white ones – that have been known to show up a time or two!
Personality
Again, this is another way in which the Frorkie is a good dog and a great mix of its parents. Most Frorkies have fantastic personalities, and they’ll try to smother you with love in their beautiful dog ways.
With a Frorkie, you’ll typically get the excitable and playful nature of the French Bulldog and the Yorkie, but it’ll be tempered by your personality.
Dogs – especially intelligent ones like the Frorkie – tend to resemble their owners, so if you want to go the high-energy route, you’ll see it mirrored in your dog. Alternatively, if you want to have a bit of a quieter time, you might also be able to see that in your dog, too.
Training
Although Yorkies are a popular breed for their looks, they tend to be a pretty unpopular one for how loud and piercing their barks can be. They can be extremely vocal, and their yaps are loud enough to be heard throughout the neighborhood.
However, especially with your Yorkie and French Bulldog mix, there’s a great chance that you’ll be able to train them to be a bit quieter than their predecessors.
And even if you decide that you like the loud and yappy nature inherent in Yorkies, it is still a very good idea to train your dog. Although both dog breeds are good at socialization and are very loyal, it’s still in your best interest to hammer good behavior in when they’re still puppies.
You want your dog to be willing to listen to you. A dog that doesn’t listen can lead to a lot of problems down the road, even if it is a small breed.
How to Get One and Pricing
They are another in a long list of dogs that are a result of accidental breeding – as such, you maybe have to search high and low to find a breeder that happens to have one of these puppies.
Additionally, because of how rare they are, there aren’t very good records or indicators for how much you might spend for this dog breed. If this were a purebred dog breed, you could expect to spend about $5,000, but as the Frorkie is mixed, it could go either way (higher or lower).
Whatever you do, if you find a breeder who happens to have your dream dog, you should do your due diligence when it comes to research to make sure that you’re working with a reputable breeder.
A reputable breeder will be upfront with their prices and with what you can expect with your dog, which can go a long way towards making your role as a pet parent a lot easier.
Don’t just chase the breeder with the lowest price point! You might end up regretting it.
Takeaway
So long as you can get past its odd moniker (Frorkie), once you find one, it’ll be smooth sailing from there.
