Is it time to expand your family and add a(nother) furry friend to your home? If you’re a current dog parent or if you’re about to become a new one, you might be considering several different breeds for your forever furry friend.

One of these breeds might even be a French Bulldog and you might have already settled on a coloration. But depending on how much research you have – or haven’t – done, you might find yourself surprised by how many types of French Bulldog breeds there are.

At the current count, there are upwards of ten different colorations and breeds of French Bulldogs, so choosing one can be hard.

Perhaps you’ve even heard of one called the Platinum Bulldog but there’s a lot you may not know about this particular coloration!

Standard Colors and Patterns

Sick French Bulldog
Over the past 100 years or so, French Bulldogs have expanded in coloration and popularity and they’ve grown larger than just the original brindle coloring. However, as more and more colors start becoming popular, fewer of them are accepted by the powers that be as official colors.

That doesn’t stop breeders, though! So long as you’re not necessarily looking for that pureblood label for your furry friend, you can choose whichever coloration for your dog that tickles your fancy.

Having said that, if you are looking for a French bulldog color pattern that is accepted as a pureblood color according to the AKC (the American Kennel Club – the controllers/decider of the registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the United States), the only standard ones that count at the moment are fawn, white, brindle/white, normal brindle… so long as they don’t have the inclusion of any black, black/tan, black/white, white/black, liver, or mouse coloring.

It’s extremely specific!

Keep in mind that standard French Bulldog colorations will run you, on average, $4,000… so realize that a rarer breed such as the Platinum French Bulldog will cost you upwards of that price.

Platinum

When it comes to the Platinum French Bulldog coloring, people are of two minds about it. Some people believe that the Platinum coloration is a hoax – that Platinum Bulldogs are only cream French Bulldogs with a fancy name.

There don’t seem to be specific studies about this opinion but as it stands, the majority of the Internet seems to believe that Platinum Bulldogs are different enough from Cream ones that they can have their own categorization.

For the rest of this article, we’ll be moving forward with the belief that these two colorations are completely different!

What Makes A Platinum… A Platinum?

As you might have gathered from the previous section, Platinum Bulldogs share similar coloration to cream-colored French Bulldogs. Their coloring has been called “exotic,” and the way to tell the difference between a Cream Bulldog and a Platinum Bulldog is to look at the coloring of the dog’s lips, paw pads, nose, and eyes.

When it comes to a “standard” (Cream) French Bulldog against a “unique” (Platinum) French Bulldog, the coloring for the unique French Bulldogs will seem slightly diluted. Whereas a regular Cream French Bulldog will have a dark coloring (black nose, dark eyes, black paw pads), you’ll find that the coloring of Platinum Bulldogs will have a lighter/more diluted coloring.

You can expect to see darker/grayer colors in Platinum Bulldogs than in Cream ones… but if you’re not sure that you’re looking at the right type of dog, you can always check with the breeder. So long as the breeder is a reputable one with a long list of happy customers, you can trust that they’ll be honest with you in regard to the dog’s coloration.

Having said that, there’s no guarantee that the color a dog is at birth will remain its coloring for its whole life, so don’t be surprised if you get some surprises as your dog gets bigger and grows older!

Platinum Pricing

As touched upon earlier, you can expect to pay at least $1,000 to $2,000 more than a standard French Bulldog breed… but you might also find yourself spending way more than that. It’s best to make sure you have at least $10,000 to play with just in case, as some of the better pedigree dogs can cost you that much.

Takeaway

Although Platinum French Bulldogs may not be too dissimilar to Cream French Bulldogs, you can receive a lot of joy from going the extra mile and getting a Platinum type!

Make sure to consider the price costs and how much that “exotic” coloring means to you and go from there when you get a new furry friend!
